Our Story 
 
Mel's Marvellous Cakes is a family run business based in Woking on the edge of the Surrey Hills.  We have always loved vintage and in 2010 when our children were small, we bought an abandoned caravan for camping holidays.  Once the children grew out of the caravan, we kept it and decided to upcycle it and create a mini kitchen.  We reused cupboard doors as the teashop counter, we recycled an old stainless steel kitchen worktop and we bought a tiny boiler for hot water.  Painting the exterior cornflower blue was inspired by spring and the desire to make the caravan look as pretty as possible. And so, the blue caravan became Mel's Marvellous Teashop selling Mel's Marvellous Cakes but mostly scones!
     Nowadays, the teashop offers vintage, mismatched crockery on painted pastel equally mismatched tables decorated with silk flowers.  The crockery has evolved from a small collection gathered for our wedding into over 100 cups, saucers and plates, available for hire.  You will be served on pretty china, with your tea leaf tea poured from a teapot and warmed with a tea cozy.  Homebaked Scones are always warm, and accompanied by clotted cream and home made jam.  You'll be listening to music from the 1940s or 1950s while smiling staff look after you or perhaps you'll see Mel herself dressed up in her own unique and vintage style.
