All About Mel

If this is your first visit, welcome to Mel’s Marvellous Cakes. I’m Mel, the owner and baker. I started to bake because I love feeding people! Anyone who visits my house will find it difficult to escape without at least a cup of tea and a slice of cake. No wonder, they find it so difficult to leave!

Mel’s Marvellous Cakes was set up as a small business during lockdown when I had space to think clearly and realise that teaching was just not making me feel good. It was stressful for me and my family and something needed to change. Baking and the creativity of running my own business on the other hand was and has been a better channel for my imagination and hyperfocus and now I see my family more (especially when I make them work with me!)

Those who have met me will know that I’m a sensitive soul and I care deeply about the afternoon teas and cream teas I create and the service I offer. I take criticism seriously and run away from compliments. I’m always evolving and finding ways to improve the business. I’m also very chatty and love to get to know my customers. We have a lot of very loyal customers who return time and time again particularly at the wonderful Ripley Farmer’s Market.

So, I hope that gives you a small insight into my gorgeous afternoon tea business. We hope to see you at one of our events or even at a private booking for a special occasion. Our work so far with The Web Goddess has been delightful and the new website is a true reflection of my values in the business and with my family.
